Dulce de leche in drinks

We took the common sauce toppings for ice cream sundaes—chocolate, coffee and caramel—and threw them together in this set of decadent drinks. Weather just topped as a creamy caramel swirl or mixed into a combination of rich flavours, dulce de leche is a satisfying treat that harmonizes well with both hot and cold drinks. Here are some examples:

1) Caramel Latte

Ingredients:

  • cup espresso
  • tablespoons dulce de leche (milk caramel)
  • 1/2 cups milk
  • whipped cream and cinnamon (optional)
  • dulce de leche for drizzling (optional)
    Directions:
Pour coffee into heatproof serving glasses. Add two tablespoons of dulce de leche and stir to combine. Top with milk. Add a dollop of whipped cream and cinnamon if you feel like it. To decorate, use a tablespoon of dulce de leche diluted in half tablespoon of milk to dizzle over the cupServe immediately.

    2) Hot Chocolate with Caramel Cream

    Ingredients:

    • 1/2 cups good quality chocolate
    • cups milk
    • tablespoons dulce de leche
    • cup cream whipped (topping)

    Directions:

Combine chocolate and milk in a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the chocolate milk begins to steam and mixture is well blended. Remove from heat.
Drizzle dulce de leche into a bottom corner of a 1 quart resealable plastic bag. Place 2 heaping tablespoons whipped cream over dulce de leche. Repeat drizzling dulce de leche and adding whipped cream two more times. Close bag gently removing all air. Cut a 1/2 inch wide corner off the bottom of the bag.
Ladle the hot chocolate into four serving cups. Squeeze topping from the bag in a circular motion creating a caramel cream swirl over each drink.

      3) Almond Caramel Chai Latte

      Ingredients:

      • cups almond milk
      • green tea teabags (chai) of your choice
      • 4 tablespoon dulce de leche
      • dulce de leche (for drizzling)

      Directions:

Warm the almond milk in a saucepan over medium heat. When hot, add the chai green tea teabags to the pan and steep according to the package directions. Discard the teabags and add to a blender along with the dulce de leche. Blend so the dulce de leche is incorporated into the mixture. Pour into mugs and top with a drizzle of dulce de leche. Serve immediately.

4 ) Hot Chocolate with Caramel Cacao

        Ingredients:

        • 1/2 cup whole milk
        • 1/4 cup heavy cream
        • 5 ounces good-quality milk chocolate, coarsely chopped
        • 1 tablespoon dulce de leche
        • 1-2 tablespoons creme de cacao
        Directions:
Combine milk and cream in a small saucepan over medium heat and cook until simmering, about 4 minutes. Add chocolate and whisk until completely melted, about 2 minutes. Whisk in dulce de leche and creme de cacao until incorporated. Serve immediately.
